In 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Czaputowicz was an activist for the democratic opposition. Due to his political activity he was interned in December 1981 and imprisoned in 1986. In 1988-1990 he served as a member of the Civic Committee to the Chairman of the Independent and Self-Governing Trade Union Solidarity (NFZZ Solidarność).
Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz has a plethora of experience in diplomacy and international relations. Following his entry into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, he served as the Deputy Director and then Director of the Consular and Emigration Department (1990-1992) and the Deputy Head of the Civil Service (1998 – 2006). Between 2006-2008 Mr. Czaputowicz was in charge of the Department of Strategy and Foreign Policy Planning at the Ministry. Additionally, between 2008 to 2012 he headed the National School of Public Administration. From January to September 2017 he was at the helm of the Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy. Subsequently, he took charge of legal and treaty affairs at the Ministry as an Undersecretary of State in September 2017.
He is the author of over 100 articles and academic monographs in the field of international relations, international security and European integration. He is a researcher at the Institute of European Studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw, specialising in European integration studies.
